Detailed Information
The Balmoral Double Chicken Coop + 1.4 m Run is an outstanding coop with a remarkable range of features making it excellent value for money. It is an attractive addition to your garden made from eye-catching materials. And most importantly, it provides a good home for your chickens.
Its approximate dimensions are 174 cm (W) x 220 cm (D) x 80 cm (H) including the overhangs and run.
This classic wooden coop provides 6.3 square feet of internal space and two roosting perches, which makes it suitable for 4-5 medium-sized birds or up to 8 small-sized birds like bantams. Please acknowledge that different species have different living requirements and these numbers are only rough approximations that are based on our own experience and that of customers who are using the coop.
The external outdoor run space is 1.4 m in length by 91 cm in width. The run can be attached both to the front and back of the Balmoral Chicken Coop. It provides a place for your birds to roam around, sunbathe, dust bathe, forage on grass. The run fits snuggly next to the coop and provides some protection against foxes and other predators so that your birds are safe at night if you forget to lock them in.
There are two nesting areas on each side of the main coop living area. Each of these nesting areas is separated into two compartments, giving a total of 4 nesting compartments. Chickens do not typically require a lot of space and are known to huddle together to keep warm. That is why they do not necessarily need their individual nesting compartment – you will often find them sharing.
Like all good modern chicken coops, the Balmoral features easy access to the nesting compartments. Simply lift the lid of each of the compartments and the eggs will be within reach.
The health of your birds is the most important thing to consider when choosing a chicken coop. Good hygiene is a must for the health of the birds and to ensure the coop remains clean and parasite free, you would need access to its internal parts for regular and thorough maintenance. The Balmoral Double Chicken Coop is designed with fully-opening roof parts to allow for access to all internal parts of the coop so that you can check or treat it against lice, red mite and other common parasites.
Another feature that enhances hygiene is the pull-out tray/droppings board. It sits right beneath the main living area where the perches are. It is coated in galvanised metal and can be pulled out and away both from the front or the back side of the coop for easy cleaning. The perches themselves are also removable for cleaning.
This coop also includes suitable ventilation for your birds. There is a window with mesh wire positioned up high so that your hens won’t get directly in the draft, thus creating a comfortable environment for them, while still allowing them to keep warm even when cold outside. The sliding door allows for adjustment and closing it altogether if the weather gets too windy.
The Balmoral Double Chicken Coop boasts a pitched shed roof design with an asphalt layer on top. This design is superior to other coops on the market because it makes the coop 100% waterproof. Not only will your birds be dry, but draining the water away from the coop increases its longevity substantially.
An asphalt roof also provides insulation and protection from the elements. The strong asphalt acts as an insulator, ensuring your coop stays cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, therefore keeping your birds happy, healthy, and laying!
The Balmoral Double Chicken Coop + 1.4 m Run is made to last. It is made from environmentally friendly, hard-wearing wood, which is chosen for its integrity and lack of splintering. The wood cladding uses secure-locking rigid tongue and groove panels. Additionally, the feet of the chicken coop are protected by rot-free adjustable plastic caps. We’ve also supplied this coop with rust-proof locks, handles, and pull-out tray.
If you fancy a traditional triangular pointed (gable) roof design chicken coop, please see our Savoy Double Chicken Coop with Run, which is slightly larger and includes all of the features of the Balmoral.
